There is a long sandy beach on the lakeshore that is suitable for swimming - within walking distance of the cottage (1 km) and also accessible by car.

At 2.5 miles long and .5 miles wide, Loch na Fooey is a classic glacial lake in a steep-sided valley, surrounded by the ruggedly beautiful mountains of Galway and Mayo. Four substantial rivers and countless mountain streams flow into the Lough. The fishing is free (no licence is needed), and the unpolluted waters hold good stocks of wild brown trout and pike.

A rowing boat is available free by arrangement (its use is shared with another cottage).

This area offers many splendid walks, both for experienced hill walkers and for those who want to try something less demanding. The following higher peaks all provide good walking: Bunacunneen, Devil's Mother, Leynabricka, Skeltia and Buckaun. The area is also of immense geological interest.

Ideal for a relaxing holiday away from it all and within easy reach of Connemara and beautiful seaside beaches. The picturesque village of Leenane is only 11 km distance.
